Ranil’s appointment as PM: JVP issues ominous warning

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), General Secretary, Tilvin Silva warned yesterday that the appointment of Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister was a delaying tactic, which would not help resolve the current crisis.

Silva claimed that the people across the country were asking Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resign.

“The main slogan is Gota Go Home. But the President and his associates are doing their best to keep Gotabaya in power. They are also coming up with various temporary solutions. What we need is a solution to the problem faced by the country and not the one by the Rajapaksas,” Silva said.

“When Rajapaksas are in trouble, Ranil Wickremesinghe has always come to their aid”, the JVP General Secretary said.

“Who is Ranil Wickremesinghe? He was called the mastermind behind the Treasury bond fraud. They portrayed him as a traitor to the country. Now, they are trying to make him the Prime Minister. This would have been hilarious if not for the devastating impact it will have on the country,” Silva said.

The JVP General Secretary said that Sri Lanka was running out of time. The Central Bank Governor had warned that unless political stability was achieved within two days, the economy would be in big trouble, Silva said.

“But the President doesn’t care about any of that. Ranil doesn’t care. Obviously, the SLPP MPs don’t care. We will see the consequences of these delaying tactics soon,” he said.
