Prelates complain to President of construction of duplicate Dalada Maligawa

KANDY – The prelates of Malwatta and Asgiriya complained to President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday (4) that a duplicate Dalada Maligawa was being built at Wadakada, Pothuhera, Kurunegala.

The most venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sidhhartha Sumangala and Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanyake Theras of Malwatte and Asgiriya have in a letter informed President Wickremasinghe that the builder of the duplicate Dalada Maligawa has already collected contributions from the Buddhists by misleaing them.

The prelates and Diyawadana Nilame  Pradeep  Nilanga Dela have said that some persons abuse social media platforms to denigrate the Sasana. The prelates have urged President Wickremasinghe to take appropriate action to stop these activities injurious to Buddhasasana.

Heat index is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and Monaragala and Hambantota districts

Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology at 4.00 p.m. 08 May 2025, valid for 09 May 2025

The public are warned that the Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and Monaragala and Hambantota districts.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
