Only LPBOA agrees to reduce fares

School transport providers and three-wheeler unions yesterday (01), said that they would not reduce fares although petroleum distributors reduced prices of several types of fuel from Sunday (30).

The price of auto diesel remains unchanged while Octane 92 petrol was reduced by Rs 11.

“The price of Octane 95 petrol was reduced by 41 rupees. Super diesel prices dropped by 22 rupees. Buses, vans and three-wheelers don’t use these. We can’t reduce prices,” All-Ceylon School Children Transport Association (ACSCTA) Secretary Lalith Chandrasiri said.

Chairman of the Inter-Provincial School Children Transport Services Association, Ruwan Prasad said that the fuel price reductions were an eyewash and that they hoped parents understand that the fares could not be reduced.

Chairman of the All-island Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Association, Lalith Dharmasekara said that they would not reduce fares despite a 11-rupee reduction in 92 Octane petrol price.

However, Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) head, Gemunu Wijeratne said they would reduce bus fares by five percent from yesterday. “The minimum fare will be reduced from Rs.30 to Rs. 28. Please bring change,” he urged passengers.

Vietnamese President Luong Cuong warmly welcomed President Anura Kumara Disanayake during an official ceremony held in Hanoi on Monday (05) morning

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was accorded a ceremonial welcome with full military honours upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace of Vietnam.  He also took part in the inspection of the Tri-Forces Guard of Honour and the playing of the national anthems of Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka and Vietnam engage in annual bilateral trade, primarily in exports, totalling around US$200 million. Both nations aspire to elevate this trade to US$1 billion in the near future.

President Dissanayake’s visit highlights Sri Lanka’s deep commitment to its longstanding friendship with Vietnam and demonstrates a mutual resolve to enhance collaboration in traditional sectors while exploring new opportunities in digital transformation, the digital economy, energy transition, artificial intelligence and connectivity.
