Nations Trust Bank builds growth momentum in 1Q 2026

Nations Trust Bank PLC (NTB) commenced the financial year on a positive note, delivering a strong performance for the three months ended 31st March 2026, with a Profit After Tax (PAT) of LKR 4.6Bn, marking a 12% yearonyear increase. The results were supported by steady asset growth, stable Net Interest Margins (NIMs), and prudent risk management, reflected in a low Net Stage 3 Ratio of 1.10%. A robust capital position further supported the Bank’s performance, with Return on Equity (ROE) reaching 18.98%, indicating the Bank’s continued momentum and a positive outlook for growth in the year ahead.

Nations Trust Bank, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hemantha Gunetilleke, stated,

“The Bank’s performance in 1Q 2026 highlights its strength and the progress of its strategy as we move into the next phase of growth. This is reflected in the expansion of our loan book and our continued focus on supporting customers across consumer, commercial and corporate segments. In doing so, the Bank has contributed to broader economic growth in Sri Lanka, supporting investment and expansion across key sectors. LANKATILES continued its design-led collaboration with Colombo Fashion Week at CFW Couture + Trousseau 2026, presenting a new interpretation of how surfaces can move beyond conventional applications to become part of a wider creative experience. For its latest collaboration, LANKATILES introduced a series of specially created mosaic-clad blocks and plinths, thoughtfully integrated into the runway environment as sculptural design elements.

The installation reflects LANKATILES’ approach to looking beyond what happens on the runway and exploring the design that shapes the space around it. Bringing together fashion and surface, movement and material, and runway and room, the collaboration demonstrates how materials associated with architecture and interiors can take on new meaning within a different creative context.

Bourse turnover plummets as Trump rejects Iranian peace overture

The CSE yesterday kicked off on a positive note but later turned negative, recording the lowest turnover in the recent past, owing to the rejection of the Iranian peace proposal by US President Donald Trump, market analysts said.

Both indices moved downward. The All Share Price Index went down by 81.79 points, while the S and P SL20 declined by 17.28 points.

Turnover stood at Rs 596 million with two crossings. Those crossings were: JKH crossed 2.75 million shares crossed to the tune of Rs 52 million; its shares traded at Rs 18.19 and CDB 1.1 million shares crossed for Rs 40 million; its shares traded at Rs 35.

In the retail market companies that mainly contributed to the turnover were; Haycarb Rs 36 million (172,000 shares traded), Commercial Bank Rs 31 million (151,000 shares traded), JKH Rs 23 million (1.2 million shares traded), Tokyo Cement (Non-Voting) Rs 15 million (274,000 shares traded), Commercial Credit and Finance Rs 15 million (157,000 shares traded), CCS Rs 13 million (112,000 shares traded) and Sierra Cables Rs 13 million (370,000 shares traded). During the day 32 million share volumes changed hands in 13252 transactions.

It is said that manufacturing sector counters, especially JKH, performed well while in the banking sector, especially Commercial Bank and CDB, impressed.

Meanwhile, Vidullanka PLC said project companies in which it holds equity have submitted winning bids to establish 18.7 MW/93 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) integrated with existing ground-mounted solar power plants.

The company’s estimated share of equity investment across the four projects is around Rs 600 million.

Yesterday the rupee was quoted at Rs 330.50/65 to the US dollar in the spot market, while bond yields edged lower at open, dealers said.
