Machinery distributed to undertake climate smart agriculture in six provinces
The distribution of agricultural machinery among 47 Agrarian Service Centres in six provinces was held yesterday (03) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The Presidential Media Division said that Rs 250 million had been spent on the project.
These equipment were distributed to the Agrarian Service Centres under the “Climate
Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project” which is being implemented to encourage farmers for green agriculture and optimize productivity.
It included seven types of machinery including paddy harvesting machines, weeding machines, nursery machines and 45 horsepower tractors. It is planned to distribute these machines to 47 Agrarian Service Centres in 11 districts in the North, North Central, Eastern, North Western, Uva and Southern Provinces.
Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath, Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture D.M.L.
Bandaranayake and representatives of farmers’ organizations were also present on the occasion.

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
