Govt. has no intention to grab any private land in North, says SLFP MP Raghavan

By Dinasena Ratugamage
The government has no intention of forcibly acquiring any private land in the Northern Province, SLFP MP Dr. Suren Raghavan said, on Saturday, commenting on transferring documents from the Jaffna Office of the Land Reform Commission to Anuradhapura.
This was done so that the Commissioner General of Lands could examine the documents, Dr. Raghavan said.
He made the statement answering a question posed by a journalist in Vavuniya.
Dr. Raghavan was recently appointed the SLFP leader of the Vanni District.
“I was the Governor of the Northern Province for a short time. During that time over 10,000 acres of private lands were returned to their rightful owners. I will always stand by the Tamil people.”
Dr. Raghavan said that a lot more is needed to be done to boost the economy of the Northern Province. Many areas, especially in Mannar, were lagging behind the other parts of the country, he said.
