Education Minister Professor G.L. Peiris yesterday told Parliament that he would inquire into the removal of Saumya Liyanage from the post of Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo.

Prof Peiris said that he would take appropriate measures after a full inquiry. “If any injustice has taken place we will rectify it,” he said.

The Education Minister made these observations following an inquiry made by SJB MP Buddhika Pathirana.

Pathirana pointed out that several MPs had raised the issue in the House and that it implied that the issue was not a case of politics instigated by party politics. “There are all sorts of internal politics in these institutions.
