WEATHER FORECAST FOR 25 JANUARY 2025

Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 25 January 2025 by the Department of Meteorology 

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Showers or thunder showers will occur at times in Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Western,  Uva and Southern provinces and in  Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere in the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Uva, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara-Eliya and Matale districts.

Fairly strong winds of (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over Eastern slope of the central hills and Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Matale and Hambantota districts.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Winds will be north-easterly and speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (45-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be fairly rough at times but strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
