Cabraal says …
Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal has sent the following response to the caption of our front-page picture yesterday.
“I refer to the caption that appeared with my picture in your esteemed newspaper on Wednesday (18). It was accurately stated that the overseas travel ban against me had been extended by the Honourable Magistrate in relation to private complaint filed by an ex-Provincial Governor.
“In this connection, I wish to state that I have always asked the Learned President’s Counsel who represents me in Court not to oppose or resist the travel ban request of the complainant as I have absolutely no intention to go abroad while any inquiries or legal proceedings are continuing. Even during the period 2015 to 2019 when various persons made unfounded allegations against me, I diligently followed that stance and cleared my name, and I shall follow that practice now as well.
“I can also proudly claim that I have not worked abroad for any overseas organisation nor applied or obtained permanent residency or citizenship in any country other than Sri Lanka as I am abundantly content to live and die in Sri Lanka notwithstanding any shortcomings the country may experience from time to time.”
