57,000 families in Jaffna eligible for Rs 2000 lockdown dole
District notches record number of coronavirus infections

Over 57,000 families in Jaffna were eligible for the Rs. 2,000 dole given to those adversely affected by the lockdown to control COVID-19, Jaffna District Secretary, Kanapathipillai Mahesan said yesterday.
He said that the government had allocated funds and the money would be distributed through local level officers.
Mahesan also said that 239 COVID-19 cases were detected in Jaffna on Wednesday (25), which was the highest number of infections reported from the district since March 2020. Steps had been taken to expand the anti COVID-19 programmes in the district, following the recent rapid increase in the pandemic.

Anuradhapura, Monaragala, Mannar and Vavuniya districts.
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

Advisory for Severe Lightning Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre Issued at 12.30 p.m. 21 March 2026, valid for the period until 11.00 p.m. 21 March 2026
Thundershowers accompanied with severe lightning are likely to occur at some places in the Galle, Matara, Kaluthara and Rathnapura districts after 1.00 p.m.

Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
