Woman’s body found in travelling bag at Mabima garbage dump

Police yesterday found the body of a woman in an abandoned travelling bag at a garbage dump at Mabima near the Sapugaskanda oil refinery.
Following a complaint to the Community Police Division that there was a stench emanating from the place, police inspected and found the travelling bag containing the body.
The hands and legs of the victim had been tied, police said, adding that the victim was between 35 and 40 years old.
The identity of the deceased had not been established at the time of going to press. She was in a red frock, the police said.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the Kelaniya police crime branch officers were conducting investigations. In addition, on the instructions of the SSP Kelaniya, Sapugaskanda police are conducting a separate investigation.
