Thamil Makkal Thesiya Kuttani (TMTK) leader and Jaffna District MP C.V. Wigneswaran says that Sri Lanka has a government of the Sinhalese by the Sinhalese for the Sinhalese.

Declaring that a Tamil candidate would not be able to win a presidential election, Wigneswaran has said: “I believe I am the best candidate if a common Tamil candidate is to be put forward.”

Wingeswaran has said so in a statement, in response to UNP MP Vajira Abeywardena’s request for the Tamils not to field a Tamil candidate for the presidency. Wigneswaran has said that Abeywardena in his capacity as Chairman of the UNP makes a statement like this to help the “incumbent President win.”

“We Tamils have continuously voted for Majority community candidates so far,”

Wigneswaran said. “All promised to solve our political problems. After [the] election, we were not even known to them. We remain where we were in 1956 even now. Except for peripheral benefits given on a friendly basis, the political problems of the North-Eastern Tamils have not been solved so far.”
