Wedding with no groom finally blessed with one!

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn as an MP for a record ninth consecutive time. He is the only politician who has been in every Parliament since 1977.

June weddings are very popular in Sri Lanka and this long-awaited wedding auspiciously took place on Wednesday the 23rd morning for the 72-year-old groom Ranil Wickremesinghe. The educated groom wasted no time in proving how badly he was missed in that drab wedding house without a groom. We have been bored listening to baseless speeches until this day. Ranil the groom may be not popular with the masses because he does not know how to play to the gallery and leadership never suited him. However, none can match him with knowledge on government and matters related to parliamentary affairs.

In his first speech, after returning to Parliament as a Nationalist MP, he said ‘The rich have been given relief by the government while the poor have been left starving.’ The learned groom also dealt with set government procedures for ministers, cabinet and the government itself. He urged the government to re-engage with the IMF. Although I am not a ‘green-man’ I noted a sigh of relief with all politicians, irrespective of the various colours they belong to, by the presence of Ranil the groom at the wedding.
