Vimansa breaks 200 metres National Youth record
St. Joseph Vaz’s College, Wennappuwa sprinter Vimansa Rajakaruna established a new national youth record in the 200 metres and Nannapurawa MV Bibila athlete Madushani Herath produced an outstanding long jump feat to hog the limelight on day three of the All Island Schools Games Athletics Championship in Colombo.
Rajakaruna renewed the youth record with a feat of 21.42 seconds to win the Under 18 boys’ 200 metres ahead of Shashintha Silva who returned a time of 21.63 seconds. Shashintha too bettered the previous meet record.
Early this month the two shared the first two places at the Sir John Tarbat Senior Championship with Shashintha bagging the Youth Record. On Saturday, Shashintha bagged the national youth record in the 400 metres with a feat of 46.85 seconds.In the girls’ category events Madushani Herath cleared a distance of 6.19 metres to establish a new meet record in the Under 20 girls’ long jump.
