Udayanga Path to Ukranian Glory
The massive assault on democracy in the US by the Trump-support rightwing activists is a strong reminder of the need to protect democracy and the associated rights of the people.
The Democrat Senator Charles E. Schumer had a good and timely question on what happened on Capitol Hill. He said: “As we speak, the eyes of the world are on this chamber, questioning whether America is still the shining example of democracy, the shining city on the hill.”… “What message will we send to fledgling democracies, who study our Constitution, mirror our laws and traditions, in the hopes that they, too, can build a country ruled by the consent of the governed?”
This brings a question to us, too… the Oldest Democracy in Asia. Are we now in a country that is ruled by the consent of the governed?
The very values of democracy are challenged here by the process of elections – the very substance of democracy — with the claim of 69 lakhs who voted at the last presidential election, and the lesser millions who voted for the Pohottuva at the last general election, having voted for the supremacy of those always ready to discard democracy.
Donald Trump was carrying on his attacks, on democracy, from the time he was elected President of the US, in 2016. He worked with handling family members in positions of presidential office, and supporters, who had little respect for the law, handling key tasks in governance.
If the US saw the Trumpian attack on democracy, what we see is a Rajavasala Pavula, or Family threat, to our own democracy.
What we now see is a Rajavasala Weeratunga, or Udayanga Sunrise, that brings us Ukranian light, and Weeratunga shadows of manipulative tourism and distorted economics. This comes together with the operation of family dominance and the rising trend of contorted pardoning of those found guilty, by the courts of major crimes. This is clearly following the Trump trend of pardoning seen in the recent weeks, where those who pleaded guilty to major crimes, and even those who killed children, and people in foreign lands, have been freed from the jails.
While it was pro-Trump rioters, with American and Confederate Flags, that stormed Capitol Hill, and even entered the Senate Chamber, wheren, the confirmation of the Joe Biden presidency was being considered, let us not forget how the backers, activists and MPs of today’s pro-Rajapaksa Pohottuva carried out a violent storm, in our Parliament, in October 2019 – threatening the Speaker, attacking other MPs, throwing chilli powder burn syrup, and threw the Bible and Standing Orders as missiles of attack. This was the show of the dominance of the crooked in politics, ably supported by the Rajapaksa thinking and Sirisena shame, which showed us the threat faced by Democracy.
When Covid-19 is the threat facing the country, and people, the powers that be take delight in bringing ‘tourists’ from one of the most coronavirus infected countries in the world – Ukraine. The official findings that the spread of the second wave of Covid-19 began from the crew of a Ukranian airline, house in a hotel, near Negombo, is not just forgotten but officially suppressed. We are now called to sing praise to Ukraine – the Ukraina Varnanava – the stuff of the Udayanga Weeratunga Jaya Keliya.
It is time to forget the dragging on efforts by the Attorney General’s Department, Interpol and other anti-crime organizations that had to hunt down the Udayanga Diplomat handling Russia and Ukraine, brought here to be held in remand custody, and freed by a court that now follows the Rajavasala Neethiya – the family law of political dominance.
The former colonial ruler, Great Britain – now the Covid disaster struggling UK – may have given the values of Democracy. We may have followed the trends of democracy in neighbouring India, the US, and even copied some moves from France. Those are fast moving to the past. We are now in the trail and Ukraine – a largely divided country, even lower than we are in national earnings, trying to dance to please both Russia and the EU.
Let’s ensure that Dual Citizenship is retained to keep US citizens and Sri Lanka active, and possibly encourage our youth – especially young females – to get Ukrainian dual citizenship. Let’s not forget that many Ukranian women got three month visas in Sri Lanka having come here to be in a Udayanga Tourism Bubble for a couple of weeks.
There is little doubt that we can beat Donald Trump in his attacks on Democracy. It is the stuff of the Rajavasala fight against Democracy. Udayanga Thinking is fast becoming the substance of family power and dominance. Udayanga Ukraine is clearly the call of the hour!
