Two more poaching Indian boats taken into custody with crew
The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended two Indian fishing boats along with 14 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in local waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar on Wednesday night (04).
The arrests were made by officers from the North Central Naval Command, who spotted a cluster of Indian fishing boats engaging in illegal fishing.
The arrested boats together with Indian fishermen were brought to the Talaimannar Pier and they will be handed over to the Mannar Fisheries Inspector for legal action.
The Navy continues to conduct regular patrols and operations in Sri Lankan waters to curb illegal fishing practices of foreign fishing boats, taking into account the impact of those practices on the livelihood of local fishermen.
With the latest apprehension, the Navy has taken into custody 68 Indian fishing boats and arrested 529 Indian fishermen in local waters thus far in 2024, and handed them over to authorities for legal action.

Cabinet approves 14 day Visa extension
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

Taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint Sunil Galagama, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, as the District Secretary to Badulla Administrative District with immediate effect.

The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
