Leader of the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam has announced his plans to establish a united alliance of Tamil political parties to intensify the campaign for the rights of Tamil people in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. He has invited all Tamil political party leaders to participate in a special meeting on 25 January to discuss and formalise the formation of this coalition.

Ponnambalam revealed that he had engaged in extensive discussions with three Tamil political parties already aligned with his party. He emphasised the importance of Tamil parties focusing on the aspirations of the Tamil people, who have consistently supported them in presidential and general elections based on their demands.

The upcoming local government elections, Ponnambalam stated, are a critical opportunity for the public to elect grassroots representatives. He underlined the necessity of uniting Tamil political parties before the elections to present a cohesive and effective political front.

The TNPF Leader asserted that a strong Tamil alliance could advocate for solutions to the ongoing Northern and Eastern crises and pave the way for constitutional reforms. He expressed confidence that through such unity, Tamil political parties could amplify their collective voice and achieve meaningful progress for their community.
