Tiran: Disciplinary inquiry will be held against SDIG Jayawardena

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles says disciplinary inquiry would be held against the former head of State Intelligence Service, Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena, who failed to prevent the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday in 2019, and submit the report to the Supreme Court.
Addressing the media at his Ministry, on Friday, the Minister said that the court decision required a disciplinary inquiry to be conducted against Jayawardena and a report submitted to the Supreme Court within six months.
The Minister also said the CID had also conducted an investigation in respect of Senior DIG of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is accused of attacking public protests and disciplinary measures had been adopted. Both reports had been forwarded to the Attorney General, he said.
The Supreme Court, on 12 January, ruled that Jayawardena named in the Fundamental Rights petitions for failing to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks,despite having credible information of an imminent attack had violated the fundamental rights of the petitioners.
Court ordered Jayawardena to pay compensation amounting to Rs. 75 million.In addition, the Supreme Court ordered disciplinary action against Jayawardena.
