Three Lankan students win bronze at International Biology Olympiad

Abbinanthan Arulanantham  of Hindu College, Jaffna, Sayuni Malavige of Lyceum International College, Nugegoda and Nilushi Dhanapala of Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy  clinched Bronze, while Samidhi Munasinghe (Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy, won a Merit certificate at the International Biology Olympiad (IB0) held early this month.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the International Biology Olympiad, scheduled to be held in Nagasaki, Japan, was conducted as a remote competition, IBO Challenge 2020.

Prof. Hiran Amarasekera, Director Digital Media and Communication, Professor in Forestry and Environment Science, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda, yesterday said practical and theory examinations were conducted as remote examinations at the University of Sri Jayewardenepua, based on the papers received from Japan.

Two practical exams on animal physiology, three hours, and Bioinformatics, 1.5 hours, were conducted on August 11th. Two theoretical exams, each running into six hours, were conducted on August 12th, 2020. (IN)
