Hirantha Lakshan scored an unbeaten century as St. Thomas’ reached 202 for three wickets before inclement weather curtailed the final session of play on day two of the historic Battle of the Blues of Matara at Surriyawewa Stadium on Friday.

Commencing from their overnight score of one run for no wickets, St. Thomas’ lost their first wicket before adding a single run to the total when Madushan de Silva struck in his first over of the day.

The Thomians lost two more wickets in the morning session before they reached three figures but Hirantha Lakshan and Nipun Samarasinghe made sure that there were no let downs from there on.

The entire second session belonged to Lakshan and Samarasinghe as they defied St. Servatious’ until bad light and rain stopped play after tea.

Their unbroken fourth wicket stand was worth 128 runs. Lakshan who had batted for nearly three hours scored 11 fours and a six in his unbeaten century. Samarasinghe was not out on 39. He scored three fours.

Today is the final day of the annual encounter which is played behind closed doors.
