Thisarindu, Hansadi lead Under 12 Open and Under 10 Girls’ categories
Sri Lanka National Youth Chess Championships
Thisarindu Induwara of Royal College and Hansadie Aradhya Akuratiya of Ferguson High School, Ratnapura were leading the Under 12 Open and Under 10 girls’ categories respectively after six rounds of the Sri Lanka National Youth Chess Championships conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.
The Royalist scored full six points by virtue of his victories against S.M.D.M. Herath, Melone Berthelot, G.H.S. Sanulya, Senal Francis, Ramiru Gunawardena and Pamok Samaranayake.
With two more rounds to go nine players, namely, Pamok Methdinu Samaranayake (Rahula College), Chenitha Mithvidu Ovitigala(Nalanda College), B. Janukshan (Jaffna Hindu College), Haritha Hansana (Rahula College), Nimuthu Nimthaka (Rahula College), K.A.R.G.W.D.R.B.G. Galkotuwa (Dharmaraja College), Senal Vishmin Francis (Bandaranaike College, Gampaha), Dishal Nimsara Weerasekara (Sri Chandananda Buddhist College), Dulnith Sanviru (Royal College) and D..D.L.N Dandeniya (Maliyadeva College) were sharing the second spot.
The Ferguson High School, Ratnapura player was leading the Under 10 girls’ event scoring five points out of five games. Only five games of the event had been completed and two more rounds were to be held when CFSL announced the leading players. For her points Hansadie beat Sethumlee Devhara Palliyage, Buddhima Aravinda Perera, Lithumi Hiranya, Meenu Vihansa Hewapathirana and Pumudi Hansadi.
Hirudini Dehenya(Royal International School), GH Nethuli Rasheema (H/Therapuththa Primary School) and Sasmi Sithumsa (Lyceum International School) were following closely with 4 ½ points against their names.
The Sri Lanka National Youth Chess Championships 2022 of the Golden Jubilee year of the Chess Federation (1972 – 2022) is conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka in 12 categories namely, under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 years open and girls. Only the Under 12 Open and Under 10 categories are conducted as International Rated Events at Sastrananda Vidyalaya, Dehiwala. The other 10 events will be held during the coming weekends. The winner will be named as the National Youth Chess Champion for the respective age group for 2022. They will be awarded a trophy while, the top three will be awarded medals. The top three players will be selected for the National Youth Chess Teams to represent the country at Asian and World Youth events.
