Swarna Sedera passes away in Brisbane

Swarna Sedera, 79, wife of author and journalist Dr. Nimal Sedera, passed away in Brisbane, Australia.An alumna of Ibbagamuwa Central College, she entered the University of Peradeniya, where she graduated in the field of Education. She served as a teacher, later held the position of Cluster Principal, and worked with Eagle Insurance after her retirement from the education sector.

She is the mother of two sons: Sanjeewa Sedera, currently based in the USA and serving as the President of the World Chamber of Commerce, and Professor Darshana Sedera of Southern Cross University in the Gold Coast, Queensland.
Her funeral will take place at the Centenary Gardens Cemetery on 26th July, at 1:30 p.m.

The Heat index, the temperature felt on the human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Northern, North-central, North-western, Eastern provinces and in Hambantota and Monaragala districts during the daytime.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
