STF raids artificial toddy distillery in Kochchikade

The STF, on Tuesday, raided an artificial toddy distillery at Ottiyawatte in Kochchikade and taken into custody three persons along with stocks of ingredients and paraphernalia used to manufacture the illicit brew.
The raiders seized 4,000 litres of molasses, 2,760 bottles of artificial toddy, 7.5 kilos of sugar, 5.9 kilos of ammonia and three sacks containing 500 gram packets of yeast.
Two women were among the three suspects arrested. They are residents of Katana and Kochchikade.
The stock of illicit brew, equipment and the suspects were handed over to the Negombo Excise Branch for legal action.
The distillery was located about three kilometres from the Kochchikade police.
The raid, carried out on a tip off, found evidence that the artificial toddy made from harmful chemicals was bottled and labeled as pure coconut toddy prior to being sent to the market, police said.
The raiding team comprised Chief Inspector MMNK Marasinghe, SI DLDT Prasanna, PSs 40444 Rohana, 12117 Tharanga, 18705 Godamunna, PCs 79349 Sampath, 87879 Kapila, 27266 Wijeratne and 4632 Perera.

Discussions between Sri Lankan and Indian delegations at the presidential secretariat

Following the conclusion of bilateral discussions between President Anura Kumara Disanayake and Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, official-level talks between the delegations of Sri Lanka and India commenced this morning (05) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
Representing the Government of Sri Lanka were Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath; Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Anil Jayantha; Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake; Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, along with other senior officials.
The Indian delegation included Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and His Excellency Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, along with several other senior officials of the Government of India.
