State officials protest opposite Manthai West DS demanding justice for slain GN

State officials in Mannar Manthai staged a protest opposite of Manthai West Divisional Secretariat against the killing of Mannar Manthai West Grama Niladhari S Wijayendran.  The protesters alleged that the safety of public servants in the North was in question and demanded that those responsible for the killing be arrested immediately and law should be enforced.

The protesters said thugs working for some businessmen threatened the public officials who refused to toe their line. They urged the government to ensure their safety. Mannar Manthai West Grama Niladhari was on his way home after work when he was killed at Kalliadi Aatthimottai recently.

The victim was known to the people of the area as an upright public official who stood up to the thugs who sought to frighten him into submission. The protesters said they would be compelled to take thier agitation to the next level unless their demand for justice went unheeded.
