Sri Lanka Vietnam Parliamentary Association revived
Sri Lanka Vietnam Parliamentary Association was revived with Minister of Environment Dammika Patabendi, elected its President and MP Hasara Liyanage made secretary.
The revival meeting was held with the participation of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and Vietnam’s ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam, a statement from the embassy of Vietnam said.
The establishment of the Parliamentary Friendship Association would strengthen the long-standing cooperation between both countries with renewed commitments, Speaker Wickramaratne was quoted as saying.
Reviving the friendship association was especially important given an upcoming visit to Sri Lanka by a high level delegation from the National Assembly of Viet Nam, Ambassador Tam said.
The association would further strengthen cooperation between legislative bodies and nations, including monitoring agreements and coordinating at international forums, she said.
The newly elected President, Minister Dammika Patabendi had affirmed his commitment to further strengthening and deepening the relations between the two countries.
