Wijeyadasa and Sirisena

The Colombo District Court has extended restrictions on Maithripala Sirisena and Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, PC.

The Colombo District Court yesterday (12) extended the interim injunction issued preventing former President Maithripala Sirisena functioning as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) until June 19, 2024.

This order was issued when a plaint filed by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was taken up for consideration before the court.

The Colombo District Court on 04 April issued an enjoining order preventing parliamentarian Sirisena from functioning as the SLFP Chairman.

However, MP Sirisena, on May 12, resigned from the post of Chairman of the SLFP, following which the faction of the SLFP, led by him, appointed Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe as the new Chairman of the party.

The Colombo District Court, on the previous day, extended the restraining order issued against Minister Rajapakse, preventing him from functioning as the Chairman and a member of the SLFP

The injunction has been extended until June 25, 2024.

Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakse was appointed as the Acting Chairman of the SLFP during an executive committee meeting held on April 21, by the party’s faction led by former President Maithripala Sirisena.

On April 24, the Colombo District Court issued an injunction order preventing Minister Wijeyadasa from functioning as the Acting Chairman of the SLFP.
