SLC opens cricket ground with aim of promoting outstation talent
The first phase of Polonnaruwa National Cricket Stadium was declared opened last week by Sports Minister Harin Fernando with SLC President Shammi Silva present at the occasion. Also present was former President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena.
The National Development Pathway of SLC ensures that talented players from all across the country get equal opportunities to represent Sri Lanka and the cricket stadium at Polonnaruwa provides outstation players facilities to develop their skills.
North Central province had been lacking a quality cricket ground and this new venture helps so many young cricketers.
Built in a 45-acre land at Hingurakgoda in Polonnaruwa at a cost of Rs. 170 million, the ground comprises ten center wickets and more importantly the boundary can be stretched to 80 meters.
Apart from benefiting cricket players from several districts in the north central and eastern provinces, the ground also helps SLC to host ‘A’ team, development squad, under-19 and domestic cricket matches
Dambulla Sixers powered by an all-round performance from Marques Ackerman [2-27 and 35] and an unbeaten 64 off 37 balls from Reeza Hendricks handed the Galle Gallants their first defeat in LPL 2026. The match, the 8th game in LPL 2026 was played on Wednesday [22nd July] at Dambulla. The Gallants used nine bowlers but were unable to restraint the Dambulla batsmen who won with six wickets in hand 23 balls remaining.

Jaffna Kings defended 179 runs to defeat Colombo Kaps by five runs in the 7th Match of the Lanka Premier League played on Wednesday [22nd July] at Dambulla.
Chamindu Wickremasinghe was named player of the match for his 22 ball 43 while Lizaad Williams captured three wickets for the Kings.
