SLAF Seva Vanitha conducts World Children’s Day celebration
The Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit organized a World Children’s Day Celebration recently at the “Pearl Bay” water park in Bandaragama. The event was aimed to provide a memorable experience for the children of servicemen/servicewomen and civilians from various Air Force establishments. Over 1,000 children participated in the event.
Numerous entertainment activities were arranged alongside the Pearl Bay leisure activities. These activities included an Air Dogs show, a display by the Air Force Band, showcasing winning dance performances from all-island school dancing competitions held at Horana Taxila College and Walgama Sri Saddathissa College, kids’ face painting, a performance by the Royal College SAGA orchestra, a drone and model aircraft display by Gampaha Bandaranayake College, special children’s games, and screen tests organized by the Swarnavahini media channel, among many other events.
Additionally, the event included a prize-awarding ceremony for the “Guwan Ran-Daru Siththam” art competition. Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, the Commander of the Air Force, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Chief of Staff, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Executive Director and Acting CEO of Pearl Bay Water Park, Gribson Hapukotuwa and the management of Pearl Bay Water Park, along with Chief Operating Officer of EAP Broadcasting, Udara Wijesinghe, teachers, children from invited schools, other guests, parents and children, all attended this vibrant and colourful event.

Four Jamaican nationals, including two women, have been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division with over one kilogram of cocaine following raids in Colpetty.
The suspects were arrested on Monday (12) during raids conducted at a hotel and a shopping complex in the area.
Police seized 1.49 kilos of cocaine during the operation.
The male suspects are aged 23 and 48, while the female suspects are aged 43 and 52, police said.
The Colombo Crimes Division is conducting further investigations.

During a routine search conducted by prison officials at the Pallekele Dumbara Bogambara Prison, 160 milligrams of heroin was found in the possession of an inmate. The suspect and the contraband were handed over to the Pallekele Police for further investigations.
The inspection was carried out under the supervision of Pallekele Dumbara Bogambara Prison Superintendent Sampath Warnakula
Pallekele Police are conducting further inquiries into the incident to report the facts to the Teldeniya Magistrate’s Court.
Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa was further remanded until October 16 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama yesterday (13).
The order was issued when the case against Rajapaksa, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over alleged financial irregularities involving the ‘Siriliya Saviya’ account, was taken up before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
Earlier in the day, the court directed prison officials to immediately verify claims that Rajapaksa was undergoing open-heart surgery at the Colombo National Hospital.
President’s Counsel Anil Silva, appearing for Rajapaksa, told the court that she had suffered a sudden heart attack while in prison on Monday (12) and had subsequently been admitted to the hospital’s cardiac surgery unit.
He further informed the court that she was undergoing open-heart surgery when the case was taken up.
However, Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the prosecution, said that although Rajapaksa had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, prison authorities had not received confirmation that she was undergoing surgery.
Following the conflicting submissions, the Chief Magistrate instructed prison officials to ascertain her medical condition and report to court immediately.
The Magistrate observed that the report submitted by prison authorities merely confirmed that Rajapaksa had been admitted to Ward 61 of the Colombo National Hospital, without providing details of her condition or any surgical procedure.
Rajapaksa was not produced before court yesterday.
The case was subsequently postponed until 2 p.m. yesterday pending the submission of a report by prison authorities verifying her medical condition and the claims regarding surgery.
