SJB lays down condition for Sajith-Anura debate

The SJB has expressed its willingness to send its leader Sajith Premadasa for a TV debate with JVP/NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake provided that the latter may agree to hold a debate first between two economic council members of the two parties.

SJB head of Operational Committee and Kurunegala District MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha in a statement dated April 9 said that his party leader Premadasa is willing to accept the challenge by the JVP for one-to-one debate between two party leaders but prior to that a separate debate between the members of economic councils of the two parties must be held.

Bandara in his statement said that his party has appointed him to coordinate the proposed debate between Premadasa and Dissanayake.

Bandara said the SJB has proposed the month of May as the appropriate time to hold the public debate. Initially a date must be allocated for the debate between the economic councils of the two parties. Thereafter, the debate between the two leaders of the political parties could be staged. Following this, the relevant time frame and platform for the debate between the two leaders could be determined.
