SJB Chairman quits ahead of LG polls
Samagi Jana Balawegaya Chairman Imthiaz Bakeer Markar yesterday declined to reveal why he had quit as the SJB Chairman ahead of the local government elections scheduled to be held next month.
The former Minister said that he had sent his letter of resignation to party leader Sajith Premadasa with copies to General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, National Organiser Tissa Attanayake and Treasurer Harsha de Silva.
The ex-parliamentarian said that he wouldn’t discuss the issue with the media in the run-up to the LG polls. Markar received the appointment in late September 2024 close on the heels of the defeat suffered by SJB candidate Premadasa at the presidential election. (SF)
