WEATHER FORECAST FOR 30 APRIL 2026

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-central and Uva provinces.

Showers are likely at some places in the Southern province and in Kalutara district during the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur in the most parts of the island after 1.00 pm. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the  Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-central provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Heat index, the temperature felt on the  human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the North-central, Eastern,  and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kurunegala, Monaragala, Vavuniya, Mullaittivu and Kilinochchi districts during the day time.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on the human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
