Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m

Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 21 October 2023 by the Department of Meteorology

Showers will occur in Western and Southern provinces during the morning and showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and in Ratnapura district.

Winds will be south-westerly or variable in direction and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slight.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

A low-pressure area has formed over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to intensify into a depression during next 48hrs.

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas bounded by (10N – 14 N) and between (84E – 90E) during the next 24 hour. Fishing and naval community are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 11 APRIL 2025 

Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 11 April 2025 by the Department of Meteorology 

Several spells of showers may occur in Anuradhapura, Matale and Mannar districts while showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy rainfall of above 50 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly strong winds of (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the  Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
