Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western and Northern provinces and in Trincomalee district. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Southern province. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other areas of the island during the evening or night and fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places.

Winds will be South-westerly in the sea areas around the island and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be fairly rough at times while the other sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 04.30 p.m. 28 May 2026 For the period from 04.30 p.m. 28 May 2026 to 04.30 p.m. 29 May 2026.

Please be prepared as the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times with strong gusty winds up to (60-65) kmph.

The naval and fishing communities who are engaged in fishing and naval activities in the above sea areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard

The prevailing showery condition over the south western parts of the island is expected to continue.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places in Galle, Matara, Kaluthara and Rathnapura districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa district after 1.00 pm.

Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

The South-west monsoon has established over the island. The prevailing showery condition over the south western parts of the island is expected to continue.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in these areas.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa district after 1.00 pm.
