Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 1.00 pm

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

A few showers may occur in the Northern and Eastern provinces in the morning.Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 1.00 pm.

Winds will be North-easterly in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee and North-westerly or variable in direction in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to (40-45) kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai.

The sea areas extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai can be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The public are warned that the Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and Monaragala and Hambantota districts.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

Showers may occur in Western province and in Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts in the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at most places of the island after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and North-central provinces.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
