Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
Several spells of showers may occur in Northern and North-central Provinces and in Trincomalee district. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Central, Uva and Southern provinces in the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers about 50mm are likely at some places in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu and Trincomalee districts.
Winds will be North-easterly in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee and Northerly or variable in direction in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (25-35) kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Galle via Kankasanthurai, and Puttalam.
The sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Galle via Kankasanthurai, and Puttalam can be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

A low-pressure area has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal and is likely to move west north-westwards and intensify into a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal on 25th November. The system may intensify further and move towards the Northern coast of Sri Lanka.
Cloudy skies are expected over most parts of the island due to the influence of the aforementioned system.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Central and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere of the island during the evening or night. Very heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district. Heavy showers above 100mm are likely at some places in North-central province.
Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and in Hambantota district.

Wind speed can increase up to (60-70) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Pottuvil.
The sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Pottuvil will be very rough to high at times. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Weather Warning. issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 04.00 p.m. 23rd November 2024 for the period until 04.00 p.m. 24th November 2024 for land and sea areas around the island

The deep and shallow sea areas off the coasts extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Pottuvil will be very rough to high as the wind speed can be increased up to (60-70) kmph at times. Very heavy showers or thundershowers are likely in these areas.
Naval and fishing communities are warned not to venture to the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Pottuvil, from 24th November, until further notice.
