Showers in Sabaragamuwa Province and Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night

Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 21 February 2023 by the Department of Meteorology

Several spells of light showers will occur in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Matale districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Sabaragamuwa Province and in Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.

Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Colombo via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Colombo via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be fairly rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
