Showers in Eastern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, Galle and Matara Districts
Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 08 March 2023 by the Department of Meteorology
Several spells of showers will occur in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Matale district.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.
Fairly strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambanthota and Monaragala districts.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Colombo via Mannar and Puttalam and sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Ampara district during the early hours of the morning.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Mannar districts after 2.00 p.m. Dry weather will prevail over the other parts of the island.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
