Showers in Eastern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Rainy condition is expected to temporarily enhance over the island from tomorrow (11).

Several spells of showers will occur in Eastern province and in Hambanthota district while showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Winds will be north-easterly or variable in direction and wind speed will be (15-30)kmph.  Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from   Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara can be fairly rough at times.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The National Building Research Organisation [NBRO] has issued landslide early warnings to the districts of Kalutara, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura effective from 0400hrs on 12th June 2026 to 0400hrs on 13th June 2026

Accordingly,
LEVEL I [YELLOW] landslide early warnings have been issued to the Divisional Secretaries Divisions and surrounding areas of Palindanuwara in the Kalutara district, Doluwa in the Kandy district, Ambagamuwa in the Nuwara Eliya district and Pelmadulla, Ayagama, Ratnapura, Godakawela, Kalawana and Nivitigala in the Ratnapura district

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 12 JUNE 2026
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 12 June 2026 by the Department of Meteorology

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in these areas. Several spells of showers may occur in Hambantota and Anuradhapura districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the  Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 pm.

Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over the  Western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-central provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over other areas of  the island.
