Showers in Eastern, North Central and Uva provinces and in Galle, Matara and Trincomalee districts

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Eastern, North Central and Uva provinces and in Trincomalee district during the evening or night. A few showers may occur in Western coastal areas and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning too.

Winds will be south-westerly over sea area around the island and speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times.  The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle will be fairly rough.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Galle, Matara and Vavuniya districts during the early hours of the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at most places of the island after 1.00 pm. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in  the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Issued at 3.30 p.m. on 12 April 2026, valid for 13 April 2026.

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.


Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa,  Central, Southern and North-western provinces.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
