Showers in all provinces and showers above 100 mm likely at some places in Central and Uva provinces

Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 03 November 2024 by the Department of Meteorology
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning during thundershowers as the atmospheric conditions are favorable further for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in the most parts of the island during the evening or night. Showers may occur over the coastal areas of Western and Southern provinces during the morning too. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Central and Uva provinces.
Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota, and variable in direction in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph
The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central and Uva provinces during the morning.
A few showers may occur in Western province and in Puttalam, Galle, Matara and Rathnapura districts in the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern and Northern provinces and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in Uva provinces and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The public are warned that the Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and Monaragala and Hambantota districts.
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
