Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 22 March 2024 by the Department of Meteorology

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Several spells of showers will occur in Eastern, Uva, North-central and Northern provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere in the island during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western Provinces.

Winds will be easterly or variable in direction and wind speed will be (20-30)kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be moderate at times but strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
