Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 04 September 2023 by the Department of Meteorology

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces. Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Nuwara-eliya districts. A few showers are likely in Anuradhapura district.

Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be (30-40) kmph. Fairly strong winds about (40-45) kmph can be expected at times in western slopes of the central hills, Western, Southern, North-western, Northern and North-central provinces. Wind speed may increase up to (60-70) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai.and up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai can be very rough at times while the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle can be rough at times.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 30 AUGUST 2026
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 30 August 2026 by the Department of Meteorology

Showers will occur at times in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Several spells of showers may occur in the Western and North-western provinces.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in thev Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts after 2.00 p.m. Dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Monaragala, Hambantota and Matale districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
