The depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal has entered through the east coast of Sri Lanka around early morning today (02) and it is moving across the country. It is likely to be weaken and emerge into sea areas off the west cost of Sri Lanka by tonight (02).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces.

Sowers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western and Uva provinces.

The sea areas will be rough and very rough at times with the swell waves (about 2.5 – 3.0 m height) off the coast extending from Matara to Trincomalee via Colombo, Puttalam, Mannar and Kankasanthurai. The other sea areas around the island will be fairly rough.

Naval and fishing communities are advised to be vigilant in the remaining sea areas bounded by (06N – 12 N) and between (77E – 83E) during the next 24 hours and are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The low-level atmospheric disturbance still persists in the vicinity of Sri Lanka. Under the  influence of the system, cloudy skies and showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces, and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places. elsewhere of the island after 1.00 p.m.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The atmospheric conditions are favorable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the Island today.

Heavy showers about 100 mm are likely at some places in the North-central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and North-western provinces.  A few showers will occur in the Western province and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
