Sebs’ Malintha, Trinity’s Dimantha top lists after group stage

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa spinner Malintha Silva and Trinity College, Kandy batsman Dimantha Mahavithana are the leading wicket taker and run scorer respectively at the end of the league stage of the Inter School Under 19 Division I cricket tournament according to statistics maintained by ‘The Island’.

Malintha has 56 wickets against his name from the eight tournament matches. The Sebs recorded three outright victories and topped the Group ‘B’ of the Tier ‘A’ tournament. Despite being slapped with a deduction of points on disciplinary grounds their aggregate of 105.29 points were the highest by a team plying in the Under 19 Division I tournament (Tier ‘A’ and ‘B’)

Milantha’s most notable contribution with the ball in the league came in their match against Maris Stella where he bagged 11 wickets including a seven wicket haul in the second innings to seal an eight wicket win. He was also the leading wicket taker when Sebs beat Royal by an innings. He took four wickets each in the two innings. An eight wicket haul against D. S. Senanayaka and a match bag of ten wickets against St. Sylvester’s were among his other impressive performances this season.

Apart from the eight tournament matches the Sebs have also taken part in three other traditional matches this season. Malintha has 74 wickets against his name after 11 matches this season.

Trinity’s Dimantha Mahavithana has overtaken St. Thomas’ Matara captain Pesandu Sanjan to occupy the top spot in the highest run scorers list. He has an aggregate of 584 runs from the eight tournament matches, while his season tally stands at 823 runs from 11 matches.

The batting opener’s tally includes three centuries and a double century.

Moratu Vidyalaya skipper Isuru Nidarshana with a total of 563 runs from the eight tournament matches and a season tally of 767 runs after 11 matches is the second highest run scorer.

Despite being among the top five batsman, Sri Lanka Under 19 batsman Sharujan Shanmuganathan’s contributions were in vain for St. Benedict’s as they ended up among the four lowest placed teams in the Tier A tournament.

Similarly Sri Lanka Under 19 spinner Praveen Maneesha’s impressive tally of 46 wickets could not take Lumbini to the knockout stage. However, they are likely make amends during the limited overs tournament which has just got underway.

The leading wicket takers list and the list of leading batsmen published here show only the wickets and runs from the eight league matches played.

Jaffna Kings former co-owner Manjot Kalra is in judicial custody until July 31

Innovative Production Group (IPG), the tournament rights holder of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), in consultation with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), has terminated the franchise agreement with Sports Commune, which was granted franchise rights of the Jaffna Kings.

The termination follows the franchisee’s inability to fulfil its financial obligations under the terms of the franchise agreement. As a result, all rights relating to the Jaffna Kings franchise have reverted to IPG, which, together with Sri Lanka Cricket, has assumed full operational control of the team.

IPG confirms that the 6th edition of the LPL will proceed as scheduled and Jaffna Kings will continue to participate in the tournament under the same nomenclature, with no changes to the squad, tournament format, or match schedule.

To ensure the uninterrupted operation of the franchise, IPG and Sri Lanka Cricket have taken complete responsibility for all player, coaching staff, and support staff contracts. The organizers also confirm that all logistical arrangements for the team have been secured, ensuring the squad is intact for the tournament.

Furthermore, approximately 90% of all player and staff payments have already been completed, with the remaining payments to be settled in accordance with contractual commitments.

IPG and Sri Lanka Cricket remain committed to delivering a successful sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and transparency for players, teams, commercial partners, and fans.
