Scholarships for children of estate workers now open

The High Commission of India in Colombo has announced the opening of applications for scholarships offered by the Ceylon Estate Workers’ Education Trust (CEWET) to support the education of children of estate workers. These scholarships are available for students pursuing G.C.E. Advanced Level, undergraduate courses, or vocational/technical education in government technical colleges across the island.

Students who have successfully completed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level with a minimum of 6 credit passes or the Advanced Level examination, and are under 25 years of age, are eligible to apply. To apply, students must submit completed application forms along with supporting documents, including a copy of the birth certificate, result sheets for the G.C.E. ‘O’ or ‘A’ Level examinations, a recent salary slip of the parents, a certificate from the Estate Superintendent confirming the parent’s occupation, and a copy of the student’s updated bank passbook.

Application forms can be downloaded from the official website of the High Commission of India in Colombo at www.hcicolombo.gov.in. Additionally, forms can be obtained in person at the High Commission of India, 36-38 Galle Road, Colombo-03, or at the Assistant High Commission of India, No.42 Hilpankandura Mawatha, Ampitiya Road, Kandy.

Completed applications must be submitted to the Honorary Secretary, Ceylon Estate Workers Education Trust (CEWET), c/o High Commission of India, P.O. Box 882, Galle Road, Colombo-03, by 28th April 2025.
