Proven sports administrator SSP Kamal Pushpakumara was elected President of the State Services Cricket Association recently and he has ambitious plans to make State Services a strong force in the game.

The senior police officer has an excellent record as a brilliant administrator and his arrival is a godsend to State Services of cricket. Pushpakumara served as the President of the Hockey Federation and was instrumental in reviving the game.

His tenure overseeing Police cricket also saw a remarkable turnaround in cricket for the police team as several national cricketers joined ranks with police. Among the players who joined Police were Kusal Janith Perera.

One of Pushpakumara’s priorities  seems making cricket vibrant again in the state sector. Police, customs and prisons departments have vibrant cricket teams and he intends to make other state teams too strongholds of the sport.
