Prof. Aslam shows the bonanza in catering to yet untapped areas in tourism

About 15% of global tourists are differently abled and Sri Lanka can easily attract a significant number of them through a targeted campaign and developing the right infrastructure, M.S.M Aslam, Professor in Tourism Management, at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL), said in a televised interview.

Prof. Aslam said that Sri Lanka has been promoting its tourism since the 1970s. However, there has been little diversification and there hasn’t been a scientific study to identify our capacities and the best segments to target.

“We can look at global trends and claim that tourism is growing but what is our plan to attract the tourists that are the best fit for the country? For example, we have a lot of places where we can promote adventure tourism. But we have not looked at this seriously,” he said.
