Private banks closed from yesterday due to lockdown

Eight main private commercial banks has been closed with effect from yesterday due to the ongoing travel restrictions. Issuing statements, the banks have urged customers to use digital, online and mobile banking solutions for their urgent, essential banking needs.

 The banks that will be closed are Sampath Bank, Hatton National Bank, Commercial Bank, NDB Bank, Nations Trust Bank, Union Bank, Seylan Bank and Amãna Bank.

 Sampath Bank will reopen on June 11, Hatton National Bank on June 08, Commercial Bank on June 13, NDB Bank on June 11, Nations Trust Bank on June 12,  Union Bank on June 13, Seylan Bank on June 13 and Amãna Bank on June 11.

 Police spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana earlier said that a large number of bank employees had been travelling to and from Colombo in recent days although the banking sector had not been declared an essential service. (RK)
