Prez admits three shiploads of fuel delayed and calling of new oil tenders
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said that the ongoing war in the Middle East has disrupted fuel supplies to Sri Lanka.
Addressing the media, at the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday night, President Dissanayake said that a supplier, who secured a long-term tender for the supply of crude oil, had recently informed the government of unspecified delay in the scheduled delivering of two ship loads of 90,000 mt of crude oil. In addition, the private suppliers, too, had reported that one ship load would be delayed, the President said. Therefore, the country faced a shortfall in the required supply. India and China were the other players in the market, he mentioned.
The President emphasised the need to take tangible measures to address the issues.
The unprovoked 28 February Israel-US attack on Iran provoked unprecedented retaliation, causing substantial damages to US Gulf allies.
President Dissanayake explained the action taken by his government to overcome the challenging and developing situation. The President disclosed that significant progress had been made in talks with friendly countries to procure required supplies.
According to the President, to overcome the crisis caused by the delayed crude oil shipments and to meet other needs, fresh tenders had been called and the government was certain of the integrity of the suppliers. Pointing out that a ship carrying fuel could get delayed due to the developing situation, President Dissanayake maintained that the government would order extra supplies to meet any eventuality. (SF)
Approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted to the preparation of the Appropriation Bill for the financial year of 2027 at their meeting held on 30.06.2026.
Accordingly, clearance of the Attorney General has been given to the Appropriation Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman.
Therefore, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished by the President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development to publish the aforementioned draft bill in the government gazette notification and thereby submit the same to the Parliament for its concurrence.

The 8th Asian Regional Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the 3rd Joint Asian and South-East Asian Regional Conference of the CPA are planned to be held over three days in Colombo during April/May 2027.
