President stresses value of libraries and sports facilities for wellbeing of children

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa recently said library and sports facilities would help maintain mental and physical wellbeing of the children.

Twenty five selected schools representing each district had been provided with library facilities, the President said.

The Month of Reading coincided with the International Children’s Day yesterday (1).

To mark both, children from five schools were invited to the President’s house and books and other educational accessories were presented to them.

The five schools were Anuruddha Maha Vidyalaya, Lunuvila, Dolosbage Junior School, Gampola, Dharmapuram Government Mixed School, Kilinochchi, Vijaya Kumaratunga Vidyalaya, Kuruvita and Vidyarthodaya Vidyalaya, Pilana.

Mobitel has provided e-library facilities providing students access to e-books.

The library project had been sponsored by Sri Lanka Transport Board, Sri Lanka Telecom, Mobitel, Manusathderana, National Library Services, National Library and Documentation Services Board,

The books donated by the exhibitors at the Colombo International Book Fair were also handed over to the schools.
